We got to Charleston and the kids needed a break so we stopped off at the welcome center. It was a tender mercy that we did stop. About a week before we left on our adventure Brian put up the screen and turned on the projector to show the kids pictures of some of the things we would be seeing in Florida. He knows how much Hannah loves dolphins so he planned to charter a boat out to Shell Island so we could see a pod of dolphins and gather sea shells till we were sick of it. He put pictures up on the projector as big as life. Hannah was so excited she couldn't speak...she just
squealed with the utmost delight for a good 10+ minutes. Brian had done his job to excite her for our trip....

What he
didn't know was that the next day when he went to charter the boat all the companies were closed due to the season. Yeah...he was knocked down a few rungs on the ladder of Father of the Year! He didn't know how to tell Hannah. We decided to see what we could do once we got to Florida. Well, like I said...stopping in Charleston ended up being a tender mercy and a testimony that Heavenly Father does know us and wants us to be happy too...there was a playground out behind the Welcome Center, so the kids and I got out while Brian parked the car.

The kids played for a bit, once Brian got to the playground he asked the kids to take a walk with us down the pier. They grumbled a bit, but ultimately we ended up going.

There was a ship in the harbor and a plaque in the park with a quote from one of our last greatest presidents.... Ronald Reagan

It was a beautiful little spot, and oddly enough it was right under the freeway bridge leading across the bay.

As we were walking down the pier Brian stopped me and asked "what is that in the water?" I looked and just about screamed! It was a pod of dolphins! Brian hushed me for a moment longer just to make sure, and once we were positive we let the kids know...we ended up watching them for a little over an hour. Hannah couldn't believe it!

This is the best picture we got of "Hannah" the dolphin. My Hannah decided that Hannah the dolphin came out to see her so she could call all her friends together to show them the "Girl Hannah" and so the Girl Hannah could tell all her friends about the Dolphin Hannah. Dolphin Hannah stuck around the longest and actually swam along with us as we walked back down the pier to our car. It was magical for the Girl Hannah, and a blessing for her dad cause now he wouldn't have to disappoint his daughter. What a find!

And the next best surprise was the
Krispy Kreme we found just after the magical dolphin experience!
DUNKIN STINKS compared to
Krispy Kreme! What an incredible day! We didn't think it could get any better than this!

I used to LOVE Krispy Kreme. We had one in California and the cream filled ones were my favorite! Then in high school an acquaintance did a math project tracking exponential mold growth on a Krispy Kreme doughnut. He waited MONTHS and it never molded... talk about filling yourself with an unbelievable amount of preservatives. It kind of grossed me out and as long as no one shows me that Dunkin is just as bad (which deep down I know it is) I will continue to very happily eat those doughnuts!
