We took a little trip out to the Indian Mounds our first day in Tallahassee. Mom and dad had to be in the office for a few hours that morning so we took a little trip on our own. We found out that the indians who lived here would dig holes to build these mounds that they would build their homes and community buildings on. I personally think it was swampy so they were trying to drain the land so they could farm it, but the scientists say it was all religious...whatever! IT was pretty cool. Ysabel has been studying these indians in school so she was especially excited to see them.
Before we get to the mounds though...I wanted to introduce you to our little friend. He is green in this picture,but when we first met him he was brown. The kids had a great time playing with him.
Here he is when he was brown. We tried to turn him red by putting him on Brian's sweat shirt, but it didn't work.
These are the mounds. They have built steps up to the top of the mounds so you can look out over the little valley and lake. It really was pretty! We were excited to see all the Spanish moss hanging in the trees and talked about taking some home...we were happy to have consolted mom and dad before doing this because we found out that the moss is full of chiggers. We quickly decided against taking any home, let alone touching it at all.
