On the 3rd Day of Christmas my Parents Gave to Us

Memory: Every spring, for FHE we would go outside to the 1/2 acre plot assigned for the garden, dad would till it and make rows, then hand us kids the seeds, show us how they should sit in the soil then cover them. We each had a row of every kind of seed we planted. Once we planted we were also in charge of weeding the garden throughout the summer then we were to pick the fruit of our labors and help preserve the food by canning it. I have a huge scar on my left thumb from a careless slice of a zucchini skin I was preparing for relish. We also had apricot trees and apples of various kinds to cook, mash and turn into apple sauce, apple pie filling and jelly, apricot jam, etc. It was HARD work, but definitely worth every minute!

Gift: recipe book on how to use food storage and a bag of dried beans.
